Weldon Haw, M.D., is Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology and Chief of Ophthalmology at SD Veterans Medical Center. He is a Cornea, Refractive, and Cataract surgery specialist who served as Clinic Chief at the Stanford University Department of Ophthalmology and Director of Refractive Surgery at the Stanford University South Bay Eye Laser Center. As a faculty member at both Stanford University School of Medicine and UCSD School of Medicine, he has trained many medical students, researchers, residents, and ophthalmologists.
Dr. Haw has received many national honors and has been voted as one of the nation’s leading doctors in multiple consumer reports including the reputable US News and World Report, Castle Connolly Medical, and Consumers Research Council of America. He has also been recognized internationally as a Top Ophthalmologist by The Leading Physicians of The World-International Association of Health Care Professionals. Dr. Haw graduated from UCSD Summa Cum Laude and is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honors Society. Dr. Haw received his medical degree from UCLA where he graduated with Honors as part of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honors Society. He was a Chief Resident and fellow in Cornea and Refractive Surgery at Stanford University and was a recipient of the prestigious Thomas D. and Ruth Byers Heed Ophthalmic Foundation Fellowship awarded to a select group of the Nation’s top Ophthalmologists.
Dr. Haw has several research interests including specialty cataract surgery, intraocular lenses, complex cornea transplantation, ocular surface disease and refractive Surgery/LASIK. Dr. Haw has authored over 100 peer reviewed publications, book chapters and national and international lectures and courses. His research has been featured by such distinguished media as ABC News, Ophthalmology Times, Ocular Surgery News, EyeWorld, EyeNet, the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the Academy of Pediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
