Bobby S. Korn

Bobby S. Korn, M.D., Ph.D. is a Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology and Professor of Clinical Plastic Surgery. Dr. Korn completed his undergraduate degree at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He then attended the medical scientist-training program (M.D./Ph.D.) at the University of Texas, Southwestern Medical School where he studied under 2 Nobel Laureates.  He completed his ophthalmology residency, serving as the Chief Resident and completed fellowship training in Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at UCSD. He is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and fellow of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons and American College of Surgeons.  He recently completed the UCSD Health Leadership Academy.  Dr. Korn's San Diego and La Jolla based practice is limited to oculoplastic surgery.


Dr. Korn has a wide range of clinical interests that span oculoplastic conditions including cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the eyelid and face (blepharoplasty and ptosis repair), congenital ptosis (frontalis advancement flap), management of thyroid eye disease, eyelid and orbital tumors and cancers, surgical management of intracranial hypertension (optic nerve sheath fenestration), disorders of the lacrimal outflow system, congenital birth defects, endoscopic forehead lifting, bulging or proptosis of eyes, reconstruction of eyelids post cancer removal and after trauma or injury, orbital fractures, and skin rejuvenation with chemical peels, Botox, and dermal fillers.  He also specializes in endoscopic tear duct reconstruction which is a technique to rebuild the tear duct through the nose while avoiding an unsightly skin incision.  He has been selected by his peers as a Top Physician by U.S. News and World Report and Castle Connolly, Ltd, Best Doctor in San Diego Physician's of Exceptional Excellence and Best Doctors of America.  


In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Korn is an active researcher and has published over 200 peer-reviewed articles and textbook chapters and is the Chief Editor of the book, Video Atlas of Oculofacial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery now in its 2nd Edition. Dr. Korn is on the editorial board of EyeNet Magazine and serves as Chair of the American Academy of Ophthalmology's Basic and Clinical Sciences Series for Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery  He is Associate Editor for the journal Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.  He is the recipient of multiple awards including: American Academy of Ophthalmology Senior Achievement Award, American Academy of Ophthalmology Secreteriat Award, ASOPRS Research Award, Marvin Quickert Thesis Award, Star Award by AAO, Outstanding Teaching Awards from Medical Student and Residents.  Dr. Korn given over 170 lectures at the local;, national and international level. In his free time, he is a volunteer surgeon locally and internationally.
